Lockdown Math1
The lockdown has brought several physical, emotional and educational challenges. But like every cloud has a silver lining, this one has too. We have time on our hands. All we now need is a little effort and a new attitude towards learning .
Here is a simple yet enriching activity for your day.
Go on a Mock spending Spree
Have fun leafing through or creating catalogs of supermarkets, shopping arcades etc. Let your kid circle out what all he wishes to buy. Let him add up the total cost, while he is excitedly busy in creating his shopping cart. So, addition practice done! Encourage mental Maths. But do not discourage pen/paper too, if your child wants. The idea is to help him appreciate the addition operation since it is a common task undertaken in the real world in real life scenarios. And also to help him feel confident in doing the activity.
Challenge - Let your child strike out items,so that the total cost of purchasing does not go beyond a specific number say, Rs.1000
This will help develop -
1. Critical thinking skills
2. Expertise at addition subtraction with regards currency
Moreover, it is an opportunity to talk about new vocabulary words like purchase, expenditure, budget etc.
Also there is an inherent natural opportunity to talk about life skills of good decision making, financial planning and contentment.
