MathAd World
“MATHS HAS ALWAYS BEEN A WATERLOO FOR ME”
“MATHS : MENTALLY AFFECTED
TEACHERS HARASSING STUDENTS”
These are the two statements that describe the strong emotions
students and parents feel towards the subject. The first remark has been the
pet of many parents who request me to counsel their kids and pay individual
attention to their math performance. The second, I suppose, is a much-loved
joke made by students all over the globe. Yes! Math does elicit razor sharp
extreme reactions among all those who encounter it. So my very first attempt
when I interact with students and parents is to help them perceive Mathematics
as a fun and lively subject. Every new
lesson that I introduce in the class begins with a fun activity. It may be a
game, a song, a video, a role play, a discussion or a creative piece of
writing. One such creative way that I try to use in my classroom is to write
or enact an advertisement – a MathAd from the fictional world that I have
tastefully created and called the MathWorld.
Here are some examples for you to enjoy, use and build upon….
